Esta ubicada en la garganta, regula el paso del aire hacia los pulmones y alberga las cuerdas vocales que producen sonidos durante la fonación. También desempeña un papel en la protección de las vías respiratorias. La epiglotis, un cartílago en la laringe, evita que los alimentos ingresen a las vías respiratorias durante la deglución.
